Best Netbook of 2010: ASUS 1015PEM Review

www.amazon.com www.netbooknews.com The ASUS Eee PC 1015PEM rises to the top as one of the best Netbooks on the market. Its got a sleek and slim profile that is inline with the Seashell lineup of Eee PCs. The attention to detail in design makes it rise to the top like cream, this is the netbook that Peter here at Netbook News is planning on buying and I am picking up the ASUS 1015PN which has a few tweaks including USB 3.0 & Nvidia Ion. Basic Specs The ASUS 1015 PEM is a 10.1-inch netbook with a screen resolution of 1024 x 768 sporting an Intel Atom 1.5GHz N550 with a 250GB HDD (5400rpm) and 1GB of RAM which is upgradable to 2GB. Design The chassis finish of the netbook is soft to the touch and feels like its very good quality and at all like cheap plastic. Since its matte it is not the traditional finger print magnette we’ve seen on glossy models, you still get a few smudges but nothing significant. If black isn’t your style you can also pick it up in blue, red, and white. Keyboard and TouchPad The keyboard was extremely functional, the shift key’s could have bit a touch bigger for my liking. The overall performance of they keyboard layout met my expectations for a device that I aim to use for productivity. It didn’t bend or flex even when I got particularly excited while writing a blog post The touchpad is huge measuring 3.0 x 1.6-inches and it has the same matte finish as the rest of the palm rest. Rather then being textured to separate it from the rest of the unit its
Video Rating: 4 / 5

How do you determine what is right for your customer? Do they need the small form factor of a Netbook or the full performance of a Notebook? Or, maybe they need both? This animation helps by promoting the pros/cons of each platform by showing how a Notebook is great for creation and Netbooks are good for consumption of content. This animation is available in multiple formats and has been localized into a few additional languages.

nice review, thanks. I have one of these (and an Acer AO Happy) and I have 2 issues with it – the teeny tiny shift key on the right hand side, and it doesn’t come with Bluetooth. To a lesser extent, I’m a bit disappointed that the camera is not the best quality. Aside from that though, I definately prefer this model to the 1005P (which I also have).
I wonder when netbook companies will begin selling these with 2GB RAM as standard though. 1GB is woefully inadequate.

@minipcpro I couldn’t find Samsung NF310 netbook in your reviews. I would love to see your review of that model!!!

FYI The left shift key and enter key are different on the QWERTY board. Bigger shift key and the enter key only is on one row.

PLEASE HELP! I am thinking of buying this computer and have a few questions… First of all, do ALL of the models have matte screens? Also what is the difference between ASUS Eee PC 1015PEM-MU17 and the ASUS Eee PC 1015PEM-PU17.
Maybe the m in one stands for matte and the p in one stands for polished?
    Thank you

not sure if you guys know but there is a dummy sim card slot where the battery is on the 1015pem. could this be a sign for a future wireless internet model?
